Bugonia (2025)
★★★☆☆
If Yorgos Lanthimos’s Poor Things was a hit, this fell short.
The story is not nearly as good or as revolutionary as the previously mentioned film, despite my opinion that Poor Things itself was essentially a twist on Frankenstein.
Even though I liked that film a lot, this one did nothing to improve my view of Lanthimos as a director. The story here is nothing special or groundbreaking. What makes it watchable are the performances, which are consistently strong. Emma Stone, in particular, nails it once again and, in my opinion, is in a great moment of her career.
