Halloween (1978)

I found the plot quite simple but somehow illustrative of something that can happen in the real world.
Michael Myers escapes from a mental institution and arrives in the small town of Haddonfield killing anyone who crosses his path. His motivations? We don’t know.
His life as a child or anything that might lead us to know this character? We don’t know anything…

Maybe that’s what made this movie so scary in the 1970s, yes, back then, because the movie I saw didn’t scare me at all.
But I imagine it would have been scarier back then, when we started finding out about the most popular serial killers that are still talked about today.

As for the more technical aspects of the film, I really liked some parts of how the film was shot, maybe I liked too many to name them all, but one thing I can point out is how the camera was placed in Michael Meyers’ point of view a good number of times, the same I can’t say about the editing, which was really bad at times.

The sound design really stood out, I thought it was pretty decent, at least at the beginning, towards the end of the film it started to sound a bit repetitive, so I had to ignore that to have a better film experience.
The acting was mediocre in general.

Don’t go see this movie expecting a blood fest that’s for sure, for a slasher, the movie isn’t that bloody. The pacing is also a bit slow at times.
The ending ruined the movie for me, I mean, it made no logical sense.

People call it a classic horror movie, well, the characters really had no depth, and it’s hard for me to call it a classic.
But no matter what, you should see it for yourself and draw your own conclusions 😉
