Redux Redux (2025)

★★★☆☆

Screening @ MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival

I’ve never liked the multiverse theory in films, especially the Marvel universe, where it’s been overused, but I have to admit I really enjoyed this one. I’m not a big fan of sci-fi, but here the film doesn’t go overboard with surrealism. Instead, it puts you in the lead character’s shoes and makes you ask: if you had some kind of time machine, how far would you go to find a lost loved one? How far would you go to save your child? How much time would you spend with them if you had the chance? And how far would you go (spoiler) to kill the same evil figure across multiple universes, just to ensure you could find, save, and reunite with the daughter stolen from you by a brutal murderer?
One thing I wished, though, was that the film felt… bigger. Despite how good it is, the low-budget look holds it back, technically and narratively, as if it’s limiting itself on purpose.
